Press releases can be a great way of promoting your website and building direct and search engine traffic. They are also a good wait for link building and link baiting but many SEOs especially more novice SEOS misunderstand the link building part and start writing useless press releases and stuff them with links. But that is the entire wrong way of looking at using press releases to build links.
I n another post, I wrote a post on how to write a press release but what I failed to mention was you need to write a good quality press release. That means that the press release should be newsworthy and informative so online publications, especially bigger publications are more willing to pick it up.
Also the main purpose of press release, as the name implies, is to submit news to the press not just to inform the consumers, but also inform the editors of something newsworthy they can write about and then link to your website. Now that’s one link that Google and Bing both love; editorial links.
A good example is when Marley Coffee and Cooking.com partnered up in an ecommerce partnership and since Marley Coffee specializes in selling environmental and ethically grown organic Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee, that grabbed New York times cooking experts to write about this partnership and link to both websites. As most SEOs know, a link from NYtimes.com is worth thousands low quality links you get because of the high PageRank and high trust and authority the website has.
