So I finally went to my dentist

I admit it, I usually don’t like going to dentist. It’s a fear I was never able to overcome since my childhood. Especially when it comes to a new dentist! No matter how good that dentist is, the first couple experiences are usually a scary one.

So the tooth was hurting specially drinking cold stuff, so I had to go to a dentist. Even though I live in Los Angeles, I usually go to San Diego to the same density that I went while I lived there.

The trust issue is something, but also the fact that I always find an excuse to travel to back to San Diego, a city that I really love. Also my dentist is father of a good friend of mine so that gives me another reason to go there. He takes special care of me because I am his son’s friend.

Anyway he really has the touch. Every time I go there to his dentistry, San Diego Dentistry, he really helps me out to calm down, and I feel almost no pain. I especially like the political conversations with him especially regarding the development in health-care and how it affects the dentists specially the independent ones.

I wish all doctors and dentists took the time to give so much attention to their patients. Dr. Brooks, my dentist and the owner of that DDS, really tries to make connections to his customers. He also has a very nice website that has a lot of good information on it that focuses on preventive measures such as brushing tips, dental tips for children, and other preventive dental measures.

The website is very resourceful and it looks as it is a big DDS but you get personal attention which I love and makes it worth driving from LA to SD. Essentially, this is how a small business should be run. Good and friendly customers service where customers want to go back no matter how far they are and what they have to go through. To remember the name of the business, and the positive experience, so they want to keep repeating it.

Did Google Get it Wrong with Mayday Algorithm Update?

Many bigger sites lost considerable amount of traffic after Google’s mayday update. While many SEOs and webmasters are still trying to figure out what how they can reclaim their ranking and traffic back, all Google is suggesting is to “write better contents for the users” which they have been saying that for a long time but the truth the matter is that it takes a lot more than a better content to rank good in Google and gain good organic traffic.

Truth is that Google updated their algorithm and although they do that everyday, but every now and then they make huge changes where it is fairly significant and observable. I came across this article, Was The Google Mayday Update A Complete Failure Then?, they pointed out something that I had also seen with one of my clients.

One of my big clients who is in short term loans were hit really hard post mayday. On the main keywords payday loan, which is the type of loan they offer online, they lost their ranking from being on the second page of Google all the way to below 100. It is interesting their ranking improved on long tail keywords in particulate trusted payday loans but whoever searches that?

At last, I would like to thank Google for keeps us, the SEO specialists and experts, in business. Their constant changing of their algorithm is reason I have a job and clients. So Kudos Google, and keep it up.

A Great Post on SEO Site Audits

I was reading this great article SEO Site Audits: Getting Started which I found was a very useful for any SEO consultant. Organization and planning are two very important factors when it comes to consulting and those SEO specialists who lack it will have difficulty deal and retaining clients.

Every SEO expert has his or her own method of auditing websites to improve their search engine optimization but there is always room for improvement. I for example, have my full time job as an Internet Marketing Manager at a payday loan lender but I am allowed to do side work so as long as it is non competing. So I do SEO work at night and over the weekend so I can’t really follow this model given by the author since I spread out my hours throughout the week. The model here is a good one if you are dealing with a client full time, but it also gives you good guide to implement it if you have a model like mine.

Organization, planning, and communications are the main factors in success when you do your own business no matter which industry or sector you are in. And the more professional you are, the busier you will be, hence more important these factor become.

Payday Loan Lenders Have It Tought When It comes to SEO

One of my payday loan clients pay1day.com is struggling to maintain stable ranking. Their rankings change day to day and not by a few but many. On a keyword like payday advance, they can be on page 3 and next day on page 5 or 6.

The payday loan industry remains to be one of the toughest and most competitive fields when it comes to on-line presence so I must admit payday loan companies have it tough specially the new ones like my clients.

In my opinion they should not be discouraged by time heals things and newer vendors need time to improve their on-line presence.

Scammy Free Credit Report No More

Although I worked for FreeCreditReport.com for a few years, I never liked the fact that they were selling credit reports under pretext of free which is the reason they put less focus on the word free on their logo.

The Experian owned company has been sued a several times for false advertising but through disclosures and loopholes they were able to settle most of the lawsuits but thanks to recent federal laws, they now have to be even more clear about the fact that they are not truly a free. The federal law now requies them to say the following:

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
When you order your $1 Credit Report and free Score here, you will begin your 7-day trial membership in Triple Advantage. If you don’t cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 for each month that you continue your membership. You may cancel your trial membership anytime within the trial period without charge.

And I recently saw a new site they launched called freecreditscore.com which looks like now they are re-branding under that. I know I worked in that company for a few years and I should be grateful for the opportunity they provided for me and I truly believe they have a great credit monitoring product stands out by itself and doesn’t need to be marketed under false advertising.

A great business model in my opinion is one that focuses on long term customer relation and not necessarily short term profit. Re-branding is one of the most important factors of Internet Marketing and to get customer to return to you, you want a brand that stands out so you don’t have spend so much on PPC and other expensive internet marketing solutions just to get returning customers. If you have a good brand and if you think long time for your online business, customers will defiantly come back. But I wonder what’s the returning customer rate of a site such as FreeCreditReport.com.

That is what I am trying to persuade my current business, pay1day.com, which is a payday loan lender. They are often tempted to say things such as instant loans or instant approvals neither case is true. It takes about 1 business days for the loans to get approved and not everyone gets approved as they do have a restrict approval process. It has been a constant battle with non technical supervisors for me to persuade them how important it is to brand for short term profit and it seems it is finally paying off. They are listening to me more, we are putting more of our SEO and web marketing around the domain, and number of our returning customers have increased.
