Posted by admin

Ever-since I moved back to my permanent home San Diego, I have been trying to get out there and network again. I have been a little slow in doing that considering my new job, my new seo consulting services, and some personal issues. But starting getting back into it. And I figured I come up with a website that contained my reviews about San Diego and its businesses.

The site still under development but keep checking it as it will have some of my personal reviews and experiences there. Also if you live in San Diego and would like to submit some guest reviews for that site, you can contact me.

SEO Test; Subdomain vs. Folder

December 15, 2011
Posted by admin

I have heard a lot of different opinions about effectiveness of subdomains vs. folders.

So I started a subdomain for Bad Boys Bails Bonds in San Diego(1168 Union St, Ste 101, San Diego, CA 92101) San Diego Bail Bonds to see if it ranks better for the keyword San Diego. The site already has a folder for their San Diego location.

Last time I read a news, Google was treating links from subdomains and folders the same, but I really want to get data for my self. I will share data soon.

A safe link exchange practice

December 7, 2011
Posted by admin

I have been asked by my clients if link exchange is still effective? And while many SEOS still insist on link exchange as a good SEO method, Google clearly advises against “excessive” links exchange according to their link schemes guidelines.

The key “excessive”, in my opinion, puts it all in the gray area. And that is why I can get a bit tricky.

For one of my clients who is in self storage business, I put up a self storage blog in a blog subdomain and started linking out from that blog in exchange of links to the main site. Kind of like 3 way link exchange I explained in my post earlier post on link building.

Google does treat subdomains as separate domains (well kinda…that’s another discussion for another time) and link exchange from subdomains will be much safer that way.

If you have any questions on this link building tactic or if you have any general link building or SEO questions, feel free to contact me.

A Few Local SEO Tips

December 2, 2011
Posted by admin

This is going to be rather a quick and practical local SEO tip.

1. Make sure all your local keywords and key phrases  are on your webpage.  For example one of the key phrases I am targeting is “SanDiego SEO Consultant” that keyword a long with other keywords are naturally available on this website and in my blog posts.

2. Add your website to all directories and local directories.  The more directories you add yourself, the better because it will help you both with links and local Citations.  Citations are your business name repeated on other websites along with part or all of your address. A partial Citation is business name and city name and complete citation is the whole thing. Below is a sample citation;

OnebyOne Storage San Diego
611 K Street B143
San Diego, CA 92101
(858)888-9250

3. Make sure you add your business address to Google, Yahoo, and Bing local and maps.

4.  Try to get links from local websites that validates that you are a local website.

5. Continue updating your content on and off your website and continue participating in your local events so you can get your name out there in order to bait for links and citations.

If you like to learn more on local SEO or need help, feel free to contact me.

Add Your Online Business to Google Places and Search Engine Local

November 29, 2011
Posted by admin

If you haven’t noticed, since around this time last year, Google has given a lot of attention to local businesses. They are showing more and more local businesses in their SEPRs and since Google users are likening this, this format will more likely to stick around for a while.

This attention Google is giving local businesses has enabled small businesses to compete with big guys, at least in their own areas. But this has also created disadvantage with online only businesses where they don’t have a physical brick and mortar location hence they are losing their search engine visibility.

Add Your Online Business to Google Places
Even if you are an online only business, you must have a local office address which you can add to Google. For example my client San Diego One by One Self Storage  is an online self storage directory with no physical facility. However their main office is in San Diego so they have registered their business with Google places (the local version of Google) as well as Yahoo local and Bing local using their San Diego address, hence in addition to normal search results, they are also showing up in the local search results in city of San Diego.

This is perfectly fine with search engines guidelines on contrary of what many believe. As long as you are registering your business in Google places and Bing and Yahoo locals with correct, honest, and legitimate information, you should be fine and it should work.

If you have more questions regarding local SEO or need help with your local SEO campaign, contact me.

Good News; Guest Blog Community Isn’t Going Anywhere

November 27, 2011
Posted by Al

When we launched Guest Blog Community last year, our goal was to create an online community for bloggers and guest bloggers to exchange blog posts and ideas.

Guest blogging is a popular internet marketing method that helps you increase direct and search engine traffic to your website.

Many blogs allow quality guest posts to be published on their blog and in fact some bloggers go out of their way looking for blog posts, and here at Guest Blog Community, our hope is gather all bloggers and writes together to exchange this information.

We are going to be redoing the site using a word press community site similar to Search Marketing Community forums, and we will be running some email marketing and adwords campaign to get the word out.

Participants can still participate in the site, and when we are launching the new site, all data will be imported and restored.

New Client; Cave of Alibaba in San Diego

November 25, 2011
Posted by admin

We just partnered up with one of my favorite hang out spots in San Diego, near UCSD in beautiful city of La Jolla. Cave of Alibaba, is an hookah lounge in San Diego, in La Jolla and Sorrento Valley area.

San Diego hookah lounge cave of Alibaba
We will be redoing their entire website in wordpress, which is a great content management platform, and will enable them to generate content on the fly. Also we will be doing SEO consulting for them using all the white hat SEO methods so they can rank better in local SEO.

Why Cave of Alibaba?
The story of Cave of Alibaba goes back to a several years ago when my buddy and I were coming back from a Santa Barbara trip when our car broke down in the freeway. We exited the freeway looking for a phone since both of our phones were dead due to the long trip. We found Cave of Alibaba, off Carmel Mountain exit off 5 and 56 freeways in San Diego, and we needed to use the phone.

Ever since then, the place became our hangout spot, and recently, when I moved back to San Diego, I paid a visit to the place and offered them my web design and SEO services. The owner of the Cave of Alibaba, loved the idea as she said she has been wanting to redo her website and rank better in search engines specially in local search where a lot of people maybe searching for hookah bars and middle eastern food.

In coming weeks, we will put up the new website with new theme and content, but meanwhile, become a fan of Facebook page to learn more about the place and if you are ever in San Diego near UCSD, pay a visit. I highly endorse the location.
